EXTRA-CURRICULAR

At Harper Bell we truly believe that young minds can be nurtured outside of the classroom, as well as in it.

For that reason, we offer wide and varied extra-curricular activities to our children, including the following:

Forest school

Forest School is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.

This learner-centred approach interweaves with the ever-changing moods and marvels, potential and challenges of the natural world through the seasons to fill every Forest School session and programme with discovery and difference.

Forest school helps children develop many skills that are hard to teach in the classroom. Children learn to assess, appreciate and take risks, making sensible, informed decisions about how to tackle the activities and experiences they encounter.

Residential trips

Each year we take our children away on an overnight residential trip to the Brig House, situated deep in the picturesque Atherstone countryside.

This experience offers a wide range of diverse and exciting activities - from developing practical bush-craft skills like tracking and foraging and to shelter building and team games. All exciting and fun activities for pupils to enjoy, but all chosen with specific goals in mind – whether it’s confidence building for children unwilling or unable to engage with their teachers and/or peers in the classroom, team building to encourage pupils to work together, or to encourage independence and a sense of personal responsibility for pupils.

Sporting events

Sport is a key part of life at Harper Bell. Our children get the opportunity to represent the school in a wide range of sports ranging from table tennis to football.

We also take our children to watch live, professional sporting events each year. This is key to showing them the 'end goal' of the sport they're learning during PE.

Each year we watch live basketball, football, cricket and athletics.
