Physical Education (PE)
Our PE Curriculum – Get Set 4 PE
We are pleased to be using Get Set 4 PE to support the teaching and learning of Physical Education across our school.
Our PE curriculum is designed to help every child develop the physical skills, confidence, knowledge and enjoyment needed to lead an active and healthy life. Through carefully sequenced lessons, children build their skills progressively from Reception through to Year 6.
Get Set 4 PE supports a structured and progressive approach to PE across a broad range of physical activities. Alongside physical development, lessons provide opportunities to develop teamwork, communication, resilience, independence, decision-making and fair play.
What does a PE lesson look like?
Lessons are structured so that children can revisit prior learning, practise key techniques and apply their skills in meaningful activities and games.
- Warm-up – prepares the body for activity and revisits movement skills.
- Skill development – explicitly teaches and practises the lesson’s focus skill.
- Teaching and practice – develops technique, control and understanding.
- Games and application – allows children to apply learning in challenges, performances or game situations.
- Key PE language – helps children confidently describe movement, technique, tactics and performance.
Whole-School PE Long-Term Plan
The long-term plan below shows the PE units taught from Reception to Year 6 across Terms 1, 2 and 3. Each term contains two half-term blocks, giving two planned PE units in each half term.
