From Taught to Remembered
Learning is more than encountering information once. New knowledge needs to be understood, connected to what pupils already know, practised and revisited before it becomes secure enough to use confidently in the future.
At Harper Bell, we think of this as:
Taught → Practised → Retrieved → Connected → Remembered
This understanding influences the way we sequence our curriculum and design lessons. We deliberately return to important knowledge and give pupils frequent opportunities to recall previous learning. This strengthens memory while also allowing teachers to identify gaps or misconceptions that need addressing.
